Seasons! What's yours?
Spring , lets start there as it is right around the corner. Spring officially begins on March 20th. Usually it means we are heading into prom season, however June 20th is the end of spring and beginning of summer so somewhere right in that sweet spot early June is go time.
Spring can be an exciting time for your senior portrait session, your first! Your fresh look may still involve layers but you will have your session images back and to show off before the summer gets started. You will be the first to rock that Bohemian daydream, Coastal Cool or Elevated Athleisure. These are the looks that will be hot for spring and summer this season.
Summer is for the bare all crowd! It is the time where water and field locations shine, and don't get me going on that sweet sunset golden hour. Even the urban settings have a different coloring and vibe here in the summertime. Things to think about in the summer here in MN is events in your scouted location. Knowing what is going on can make a huge difference not only for drive time but crowds in the area. ie: (Downtown Stillwater can be nuts like on a Summer Tuesday!)
Fall is always a favorite but can be tough depending on the winter and spring that we have. I love the last week in September through the first few weeks in October for color vibrancy and cool temperatures. The one thing to remember about fall and light is that the sun starts to set earlier and earlier each day so I typically have my seniors take a mid morning leave or a full day off to grab the perfect part of the day. Weekends are out unless we are in a private location or field due to the fact that in any popular spot in MN in the Fall there are the last of us trying to get in some fall air and sites.
Winter! Well I love it. Cold, yes but lends itself to so many beautiful layered option looks and idyllic locations if your bold enough to play outside and have the guts to smile through the chilly air and nippish wind. Winter sports sessions are gorgeous and being a hockey mom and winter girl myself, I am all in if you are down.
So consider the above, your personal style, schedule and the the temperature you are willing to get out and play in and now look at that you have some idea of the season that fits you best.
Blog #3 will be on Location! Location! Location! Well some of my personal favorites anyway and some fun places my past seniors have allowed me to work with them in.
